    baggin' it
I was at the grocery store today and while I was being checked out I forgot to ask the bagger to put my stuff in paper bags. In the middle of their bagging I asked them to switch it from plastic to paper. The bagger gave me a a dirty look and let out a groan, I'll recover from that. The more troubling thing is why do we have to ask for paper bags and why do stores keep them out of our visible sight? The obvious answer is production costs, but it seems like a small time save. I can't think of a bigger waste of resources (wait, yes i can. cruise ships) that can be avoided. I kind of understand the argument that the cost of paper bags are greater and would eventually end up costing the consumer more money. I'd really like to see some numbers thought o validate this, how much will it cost me? Maybe a new system can be worked out with reusable mesh bags or something. A situation where the consumer purchases X amount of mesh bags and has to bring them when they go heavy shopping. Give some leeway where you can leave the bags at home if they are buying less than two bags full of items, and charge customers when they forget their bags when they go over the limit.

I don't know, their just seems to be a better way than using plastic bags everywhere.

    Confession
I'll admit it, last fall I sat down to watch the movie "idlewild". Low expectations going into watching it, and those were fulfilled at the end. But, come on now, Outkast in a musical, I had to see it. That's what the thought process was at the time, only after the fact can I see how mislead it was. Despite being pretty bad my main concern was the decline in Outkast. My faith in them has been restored this morning after seeing this video. They're just helping out UGK, but it's a good sign to me at least. Big Boi's facial expressions at the alter are worth a watch. Time to loose respect for my musical taste....

    Way Out
Quit Subway yesterday morning, I burned bridges there I suppose, but I have little remorse if any.

In the last day I've had a chance to listen to a lot of records I put off listening to for a few months. The highlights:

B-52's-"Mesopotamia" David Byrne produced it so that already adds to it for me, but it's a zany and fun six track EP that I would expect from them.

The Fall-"Peel Sessions" It was recorded in 1978 and wasn;t released for nine years, apparently they had recorded like 60 songs for it. "No XMAS for John Quay" is worth it if nothing else.

Banannarama-"Self Titled"  Inspired to listen to this from my boss and I thank him. I don't know too much about the British girl pop group invasion of the 80's, but I'd imagine that these ladies were in the forefront. Really catchy stuff, especially "Robert Deniros Waiting" which seems to be about a stalker.

Beck-"New Pollution mix" Just a single I picked up a few years ago and never listened to. I've always been drawn to the Beck remixes than his actual original material, and same goes for this track. The Smashing Pumpkins "1979" was cleverly sampled in it as well so it deserves some extra points.

Matt Dear-"Asa Breed" Word isn't out yet, but the first listen was enjoyable enough to give it another shot.

Fish fry tomorrow, I'm excited to see everyone there!

    Music for Anger
I was thinking/wondering today if Eno ever creates soundscapes for personal use that is never published. Music for driving in your trashy car, and music for quietly begrudging are the two collections I need. But, I'm almost positive there has been occasions when he would do this, just not as morbid as subjects.

Despite numerous shortcomings in the last few days, the goal was accomplished....kind of. I've had a recent fixation on being able to dunk a basketball and in the last week I've been able to elevate myself, kind of illegitimately. The first was after a day at work and I came home restless and fiery, I grabbed the ball from the rack in the garage and took off for the hoop and threw it down.  If you've seen my hoop at home then you'll understand how this is possible, my driveway slopes down and I was able to use that as my advantage. The other case was at the CCRB and I dunked on the 9.5 foot hoop they have, so not the official ten feet. I hate to throw the towel in, but that might be the best I can do, I just want to go to that court in the middle of the night and just keep dunking so no one sees what a fool I am.

My senial aunt-nun sent me two birthday cards a month early last week. She forgets about a lot of people so I'm glad that she thinks of me as often as she does, but I don't understand why all the attention for me. I need to go see her soon, I feel like time is running out and I need to do something to warrant these warm thoughts of hers.

I forgot that when I went to the nature center there was a reporter from the gazette there, I know there was a picture that goes with this article but I never found it.

A few days left of living on campus, I'm really going to miss living right in the center of everything. Next year will be great, but I'm afraid that I won't take adavantage of all the stuff happening here when I'm not 500 yards from it. I'll still be in close proximity to BK who I'm currently engaged in a pen war with. Winner takes all! Or just the white chocolate bunny.

    NAZI!

Lately,I've been doing a lot of thinking of buying some used speed skates and trying to train myself during spare time. My legs are in the best shape they've ever been in and I really need to find a psyical activity that doesn't require other participants. Of course there is always that dream of making the olympics, only joking. I won't lie, there was countless sleepless nights a couple of years ago when dreams of repping the first United States bocce team at the olympics.

It's been a couple of weeks now and I'm still very into Fleetwood Mac, it's reached the point where I'll look for theri albums now. I really want to get a copy of the album that has "Sara" on it. As Felipe would say: "SOOOOOOOOOO GOOOOD".

    end of regulation
It felt right this week, maybe it was the big win margin that leads me to believe that but this is the strongest and most confident I've ever felt while playing hockey. It had been a few years since I played on the same defensive line as Bryan and that always makes it better for me. Now it's do or die with the playoffs, I want to win but either way, it's been a great season.

I don't know what reminded me of this but Rachel Moote never gave me my live Built to Spill album I lent her back in 2003. That is one of my favorite live albums and I kind of want it back, can I ask someone for something back if I haven't talked to them in a year? And what is the cut off for borrowed items before it becomes your own? I borrowed this AV chord from a neighbor Brad like seven years ago, it's mine now as far as I'm concerned. I wonder if she listens to it still and what she is thinking while she is listening to it. "HAHA, I conned you good Scott Decker!"

I'm bringing WMU friends, Cactus and Tyler home for the Ann Arbor Film Festival this weekend, as I excited as I am about this, my Dad seems more excited about it. As I type this he is buying out Krogers entire stock of soft pretzels. That was a low blow, I understand Pops, if I lived with just Mom and Julianne I'd want out too.

Jagalla, I remember our debate on who is a better hockey player: Howe or Gretzky. It's neither, Mike  Bossy is all I have to say . Check him out.

    Flour-Ides of March

So I figured out today the best part of being eighteen is not being able to buy cigarettes, porn, or being able to vote; it's not being able to take flouride when you go to the dentist. I don't care what kind of flavors they invented over the years it still made me feel like I was going to gag on it.

Whenever I go home I always end up listening to music I listened to like two or three years ago. In full rotation this week has been Camper Van Beethoven, Bic Runga, and of course.... The Tragically Hip. I used to be nuts about them and after hearing what I heard this week I can still see why. No one was ever down with them except Emily. After twisting her arm a lot last night she agreed to go see them with me in Arpil, I'm very relieved because I thought I'd find no one who would want to go with me.

We have all this cat staionary laying around the house all of a sudden, watch out Duffy.

I wish the milk man would be bring me my milk when i'm yawning
I have an easy job at Mug Shots for the most part so it's very hard to complain about anything that goes on there. I just don't like my one boss Amy though. I've been very short this week so that may be the reason for this sudden backlash towards her. A typical interaction with her is this:

Scotty, all your weird music you play is keeping customers away. Put this milk in the fridge for me.

Seriously, the music comment wouldn't bother me as much if what wasn't coming a hardcore Dee-Light and Indigo Girls fan. Has anyone heard Dee-Light? I'm not going to rip into the Indigo Girls too much because on some level I think they're pretty influential on artists that I like, but come now, they kind of suck....

The milk thing is what gets me though. A lot of the times she will be closer to the fridge when she asks me to put it in there. Are you lazy? Do you think because you sign my checks I owe you this? Or are you that busy? It really shouldn't bother me this much, but I can't help it. If she took some time to actually talk to me and pretend for a few minutes to be interested in her employees then it probablly wouldn't be a problem with me. I played two hours of Venetian Snares this morning to get her upset, my spite and anger is what guided me through those long agonozing two hours. This is the only way I can listen to Aaron Funk and not jab knives through my ears.

    Charles Mingus is awesome. SOLID

why is this gourd still here?
My friend Kurt, "I didn't need to see this movie to understand that cows die to make burgers, or that there is shit in our meat." A lot of people would agree with that if you saw "Fast Food Nation",  and if you've worked in the food industry at any capacity I feel you'll get the most out of the movie. The film touches on all the lives of the workers and people behind the product that we all recieve. And like I said, working in capacity you will be able to relate to something you saw. It was entertaining and startling to see two young men working at this restaurant sitting in the back of the store plotting on how they could steal from their work. I know I've mentioned this to a few friends, but I remember at Subway Bryan and I had a perfect scheme to rip off Subway and we'd never get caught. Then their are the cameras in the store that are there for our safety. I never really bought that. Whenever I mentioned that a pop or something was stolen by a customer it was never followed up on, but when bread was burnt it was always brought to my attention if I was the one responsible. From the movie and from ym experience, working in the food industry is such a numbing experience on many levels. One of my biggest fears is that I'll reach that hopeless point where I re-enter this world to waste away. This might be more drastic than I make it to be, but it's a scary thought. Even if it doesn't happen to me again I would hate to see anyone have to rot away like that. In a lot of cases these jobs arn't really stepping stools for something better, it becomes routine and hynotizing.

I don 't know what has pormpted me to start using this term, but I've referred people as "dunces" on multiple occasions. I don't know if it's because of the people I have in this group project, or if it's just flashbacks of Huckleberry Finn hitting me. In case of the ladder of the two.......Shu Da Door!

    year of the dog(neutor)
Ok so as a resolution for New Years I promised myself that I would pull over at least twice this year to help someone pulled over along the road. I found myself on I-94 a couple of days ago and saw a pick up truck with a large hitch pulled over and I wasn't in a hurry so I figured that it seemed like an opprotune time to honor my pledge. I pulled over and got out of my car and didn't see anyone near the vehicle, then this women in overalls and a chicago bears winter cap yelled up towards me from the ditch area. I asked if she needed help, and she told me she was just getting some wood. The I noticed an axe near her feet and just kind of stared blankly at her for a few seconds. I don't know if it was her property or what, I thought the state owned the land along highways?

I also drove by the this dog hospital last night and they had a sign in front of the office that read, "Happy Neutor Year".

    fresh brewed
Yesterday I went out to Cass City, Michigan to install this solar panaled deer feeder for my Grandpa, and while there I got a quick look at my future self. I uncovered the root of my good memory when it comes to useless dates and places. The two of us were talking about microwaved coffee and how bad it tasted and smelled. Then my Grandpa started to talk about how he doesn't hear or smell that well anymore, but on April 24th of this past year he woke up and smelled a fresh brewed pot coffee and it smelled so good to him.  I'm scared that this type of gift is all I'll have left at that age, I will say that he looks good balding so I wouldn't mind inheriting that too.

    food dilemma
In the past week or so my family has invested in new silverware. At first I was excited, I was like "yeah two sizes of spoons now!I can see myself in the reflection of this huge butter knife". Life was good, until I was hungry. I don't understand what I'm so conscience about when I'm sticking this spoon in a bowl of chowder. Soon I won't be able to see my reflection. I know, they get washed, but it's not the same. Every time they get washed they'll get more distorted and kind of grimey? I don't know what they'll look like, but I can tell you they won't look like me anymore. It would be a lot easier just to bust out our old silverware. It'll be like, "let's throw down on some pasta." "Pass those mashed potatoes." "You know,Hell Yeah I'll have some more cake."

I can't do this to myself anymore. I'm hungry, I'll just get a pop tart.
